Virtual Organizing Sessions as Effective as Traditional Organizing Sessions?

Posted by: Tamara Meyer in Untagged  on

Last week I launched my new FREE webinar series "Effective Paper Management Systems" using tools such as the Internet and telephone to deliver my message.  While this is a new concept for some, many people are regularly attending webinars.  For those of you asking "what is a webinar?", it is basically a seminar that is delivered over the Internet (web).  You sit at YOUR computer and watch MY screen and hear MY voice.

I came to the realization that in this current economy I had to get creative about taking my work outside of the geographic area that I live in.  I live in a resort town, so often I am driving a fair distance to reach my clients.  Not only does this take extra time, it limited the area that I could serve.  The technologies that we have available today, really make it possible for me to work with anyone from anywhere.

A natural extension of that is to use the same technologies for actual organizing consulting work.  I am able to deliver the same products and services over the phone/internet that I can do in person.  In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is almost more effective when it is done "virtually."

The reason I say this is that often there is shame in disorganization.  A disorganized person might be embarrassed to invite me into their space if it is not clean or is very messy.  Although I don't judge people by their state of organization, many people judge themselves.  I still like to see the environment where we are working, however, photos work just fine in most cases.  And when I am looking at photos of the office, I don't necessarily see any other space in the home or business.

Of course we all know that we learn more by "doing", and organizing is no exception.  Because I am not physically in the space, it means that my client handles each piece of paper in their office.  Even when I am present,  I never actually throw away paper for my clients, so this is no different.  I still guide them through the decision making process for the paper and make recommendations of where it belongs in their paper management system.

I am very excited with this new virtual organizing format and I think we will see more and more services being delivered this way.  If you are interested in learning more about the virtual organizing services I offer, or if you would like to attend a FREE Effective Paper Management System webinar, visit my website at http://meyerorganizing.com/index.php/webinars-and-training.  Soon I will be offering new webinars on email management, setting up a productive home office, and managing information online using iPEP (a new web.20 technology).

If you have never attended a webinar, I encourage you to give it a try.  The ease and convenience of participating from your own office make them a fantastic way to learn something new.
